Avonlea Brown Bio
I grew up in a small town on an island off the rocky coast of Maine. The community and persevering nature of my hometown taught me a strong work ethic, how to work by myself but be open to working on a team, and how to look for stories in the most obscure places.

As a junior in high school, I had a passion for storytelling and wanted to find the right job that would teach and motivate me. I had the opportunity to take a journalism class and instantly knew I wanted to spend my future career telling the stories that matter. In college, I felt challenged and grew as a person in addition to as a journalist. Cedarville University was the ideal environment for me to develop skills in writing, editing, time-management, leadership, and a desire to inform and engage my audiences. I graduated in May 2025 with a degree in Broadcasting, Digital Media, and Journalism with a minor in Publishing and Editing.

Making moves outside of my comfort zone keeps things fresh and encourages me to grow. The first and most forming decision I made was to take a mission trip with my Dad to Namibia, Africa. This trip grew my faith, knowledge of other cultures, and began a long string of trips abroad. I eventually spread my wings event further and spent a semester abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. In Prague, I learned journalism from experienced teachers and explored a vast range of cultures.

As a journalist, my primary goal is to serve the public by writing truth and helping them come to self-governing decision. My goal will be to bring people together through my writing; and I hope to one day be a writer who connects cultures and people groups through her writing. Though I know many people feel journalism is a dysfunctional and failing field, I feel that it has the potential to be a uniting factor for our country and others.
For more about my personal ethics see the code of ethics below.
As a journalist, I recognize my job does not just affect me and what I write could impact my audiences. Ethical reporting is a skill I hold tightly to and hope any future employers hold to as well. Therefore, I included a code of ethics with the four values I strive for in my professional career.
Code of Ethics
Do not cause Harm
I will seek to write news that does not cause harm to innocent people, gathering all the facts of a story and considering who I will be affecting before publishing it.
Honesty
I will be a journalist people feel they can trust.
Integrity
I will uphold my journalistic integrity to prevent bias or temptation, avoiding situations or offers that would tempt me to compromise my integrity as an objective journalist.
Love others
I will strive to show love to other people by telling their stories, giving them a voice, treating all the people I interview and write about with respect, and listening to their stories.
